We forget many things when busy!!

Well, after exams, luckily for the first time i got ample of time to introspect , what i exactly m i doing..? Actually , after a gap of 3 yrs i have got time after exams, no sms, no long calls, no training, no busy packed schedule. In the preceding years, i have always been busy with some stuff or other right from the day one, either i start my internship in the very beginning or i started off with some activity or something, used to chat a lot on my cell and then without lookin at the odds I used to join a company for training.. This semester has been bit different in this respect, i am yet to choose a comp for trn, though by God’s grace, I have an option of two. As of now , I m not regrettin for joinin my trng so late, because i found this time as an incredible break to introspect and bring my conscious back on track. This month, I have been fortunate in getting time to think the odds in my life., I would thank my Almighty for helping me in getting this time for introspection tht ...

Corporate Governance

If u see the newspapers, this term is being given a great mileage after the SATYAM DUD… I would like my readers to know more abt it..   Corporate governance involves a set of relationships amongst the company’s management, its board of directors, its shareholders, its auditors and other stakeholders. These relationships, which involve various rules and incentives, provide the structure through which the objectives of the company are set, and the means of attaining these objectives as well as monitoring performance are determined. The key aspects of good corporate governance include transparency of corporate structures and operations; the accountability of managers and the boards to shareholders; and corporate responsibility towards stakeholders. While corporate governance essentially lays down the framework for creating long-term trust between companies and the external providers of capital, it would be wrong to think that   the   importanc...

Satyam Truth Untruth Limited

Well we have been reading about SATYAM since long, After 26/11 , this is something we are watching regularly in the newspaper, since the debacle  i have been tracking the issue and have collected various articles that I'll like to share. what ever the media says, what ever the authorities have to say, i have a soft corner for B.Ramlinga Raju, though i’ll be coming across my points at a later stage… Lets see wht others have to say 1.Though Raju has said tht neither he nor his family members have diluted any stake in Satyam, but the facts say that his stake in Satyam was 25.6% in 2001 and currently it is 8.74% 2.The sale of promoters stake took place at prices that reflected the results and prospects of Satyam as shown in the books of accounts. 3.The promoters are believed to have built up a massive land bank of around 7000 acres 4. Rs. 5040cr is the non existing cash amount 5. Rs. 1230 cr is the money owned to others and that has not been disclosed. 6. The aborted Ma...

An Apparatus called BALANCE SHEET

Well, we all are aware abt the SATYAM fiasco, a lot many of us are familiar with BALANCE SHEET as the financial instrument, a device to detect liquidity... a tool for defining financial position of a business... Balance sheet is a statement of its wealth (assets) and what it owes to others (liabilities) at a particular point in time. The assets could be fixed assets like land, buildings, plant and machinery. They could be movables like cars or computers. They could also be liquid assets in the form of cash reserves or receivable payments due to the company from those it has sold goods to. Liabilities are anything the company has to pay to others. They would include payments due to its suppliers. Loans taken from others as well as interest due on those loans would also be part of the liabilities. What is owed to the shareholders would also fall in this category. Construction : Balance sheets present this information not explicitly under the heads assets and liabilities, but rather a...

Satyam Fiasco

The Post is related to the facts that have been given by B. Ramalinga Raju on the debacle of SATYAM... He has finally agreed to flaws and has given resignation.. Sad day for IT... 1. The balance sheet carries as of September 30, 2008 a) Inflated (non-existent) cash and bank balance of Rs 5,040 crore (as against Rs 5361 crore refglected in the books) b) An accured interest of Rs 376 crore which is non-existent c) An understated liability of Rs 1,230 crore on account of funds arranged by me d) An over stated debtors position of Rs 490 crore (as against Rs 2651 reflected in the books) 2. For the September quarter (Q2) we reported a revenue of Rs 2,700 crore and an operating margin of Rs 649 crore (24 per cent of revenues) as against the actual revenues of Rs 2,112 crore and an actual operating margin of Rs 61 crore (3 per cent of revenue). This has resulted in artificial cash and bank balances going up by Rs 588 crore in Q2 alone . The gap in the balance sheet has arisen purely on...

Indian Mutual fund industry-An overview

Indian Mutual fund industry is shining high… I have found this article on a website ,which says that it is a gift of 5 great events… Current status: • Around 35 mutual funds • a total asset size of Rs 402,029 crore (Rs 4,020.29 billion),. 1. 1963-64: The UTI monopoly • UTI (Unit Trust of India) was India's first MF. • Was created in December 1963 through a special Act of Parliament and functioned under the Reserve Bank of India. • Launched its first scheme, US-64 (Unit Scheme-1964) in 1964. • Received almost 126,000 applications for the scheme for Rs 17.4 crore (Rs 174 million). • UTI remained the only fund house in India until public sector companies were allowed to enter the space in 1987. • UTI remained India's largest MF till 2002. 2. 1993: Private sector MFs allowed • Private sector and foreign MFs were allowed from 1993. • The Kothari Pioneer (KP) MF was India's first private sector MF. • With higher salaries and better fund management practices, private sector MFs c...

The beginning of 009…

So, after the blistering 2008, 2009 has finally arrived, as I said in my last post, intentionally unintentionally we coin several expectations from a new season, be it connected to business, connected to our family or even the nation… As expected, due to crisis and terror, the year didn’t start with a bash. On an average everyone had a noiseless public display…!! When I was reading the 17 th Anniversary issue of Business today, I came across certain meaningful things various leaders have said, not the political leaders, but our corporate leaders, from the 30 + quotes I read, I found few really inspiring… They are not just quotes but the principles that every life must incorporate in him/her… Some of them are: 1. Listen to your inner voice 2. Out of every 10 men are born in this world, 9 out of 10 works for the 10 th one... prepare to be the 10 th . 3. Reach for stars with foot on the ground 4. Results matter, efforts doesn’t. 5. ...
