Where is the human angle?

Ironically this is what money does to our mind. We are not corrupt by design, but the utter thought of having an opportunity to make surpluses takes us to a path significantly away from being human. So, an anonymous investor isn't worried that COVID19 will spread to his city/nation but is rather pleased to know that the private diagnostic firms may soon be allowed to test the virus and this will be a great bull run for listed diagnostic companies. And this, in turn, revives hospitals, healthcare providers and sundry. Do we even have a conscience or we have just lost all that to the greed of creating this superfluous wealth which will obviously not go along with us to the place we are all destined to someday Sent from my iPad

Yes bank crisis

Human beings are the most selfish of all tribes. The guy - Rana Kapoor- in his peak may have helped some 100,000 people one way or the other, and in the process, he may have served his interests too(big deal? We all don't ?). Yet when it comes to crisis; the people, including some of his beneficiaries, have held him guilty without charges being pronounced again him. The trial of media is already on, and the man is accused of almost every possible crime which one could think of in the financial world. I pity this world which doesn't have empathy towards waiting for the truth to come. Being in a privileged position doesn't always make you guilty of wilful default. There must be some wrongdoings on the banks part, but I am sure there are quite a few banks(including PSUs) which do not have such issues.  -- Sent from my iPad

Relevant for today's time

"We must all work in harmony with each other to stand up for what is right, to speak up for what is fair, and to always voice any corrections so that the ignorant become informed and justice is never ignored. Every time a person allows an act of ignorance to happen, they delay our progress for true change. Every person, molecule and thing matters. We become responsible for the actions of others the instant we become conscious of what they are doing wrong and fail to remind them of what is right."

JOVA

Sourced from a friend, but is very interesting Each generation brings a different set of values and experiences that can lead to communication problems. What can we do to bridge the generation gap? First by being aware of a few social media nomenclature like FOMO. It stands for 'Fear Of Missing Out', the anxiety of the Millennials of missing out on what people are sharing, including the most trivial stuff. Boomers are typically more hesitant to embrace that mentality, maybe because opening up means exposing vulnerabilities. So, JOMO  is 'Joy Of Missing Out', the belief that non-disclosure leads to blissfulness. Clearly FOMO and JOMO are two extremes of the spectrum and are bound to create the generation gap.  Can we then not look for a balance between the two, the third alternative, JOVA? Before we decode JOVA, let's note what Dr. Brené Brown, Research Professor, University of Houston has to say in TED Talks, "People with low self-esteem often feel unworthy of ...

The new age crisis

I don't know who I should credit or discredit, but last couple of years have been incredible for India and it's people and it is not in a good way. Disappointed to note that the politics has completely taken over us and the ideological differences have reached our houses and personal devices. We are not only fighting amongst us on difference of opinion, but also ensuring that the dissent against a majoritarian view is killed to its core, to the extent that the voice is never raised against any impending thoughts or disagreements we may have.  I am deeply saddened by the fact that most of us now are actually made to believe that the opinion shared by a larger section of society is deemed right since it has the weight of a the population around, and in case you have reservations to even contest that, you are probably branded as a threat.  I may have had little problems with CAA or NRC if it wasn't done for the political incentives and the treatment of the people not sharing t...

From the Internet

We attach too much likelihood to spectacular, flashy or loud outcomes. Anything silent or invisible we downgrade in our minds. Our brains imagine show-stopping outcomes more readily than mundane ones. We think dramatically, not quantitatively.

Humility

"if you think you know all that somebody knows, you shall least know all that somebody knows.  If you think you least know all that somebody knows, you shall really know all that somebody knows."  ― Ernest Agyemang Yeboah

Pride

"People who enrol themselves in the schools of pride, eventually graduate with and the high degree of fall. Failure employs "pride" scholars. Get rusticated now!"  ― Israelmore Ayivor, The Great Hand Book of Quotes

Women's reservation

Honestly speaking, I do not understand the idea of women specific reservation in government jobs which one of the leading national party intends to create. If it is a question of equality, and equal opportunities to the two genders, then it is not the start you want to look at. Don't think it solves any purpose but for deep sizing the gap this society already has.
